About Drowning... An estimated 260 children under age five drown each year in residential swimming pools and spas. CPSC estimates that another 3,000 are treated in hospital emergency rooms following submersion accidents. Some result in permanent brain damage. Always supervise children around a spa, hot tub, whirlpool bathtub, wading or swimming pool. Have a telephone pool-side and keep emergency numbers posted there. Learn CPR. |

About Burns...
Most water heaters are preset at 150°. At this temperature a small child can suffer a full-thickness skin burn within 10 seconds. It would take 10 minutes for the same burn to occur at 120°. |
